Day 1: Marrakech – Atlas Mountains – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Agdz

Your journey starts early from Marrakech as you travel through the majestic High Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m). The landscapes offer breathtaking views of valleys, Berber villages, and traditional architecture. After several panoramic stops, you visit the famous Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and filming location for Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and The Mummy.

After lunch, continue toward Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa.” From there, we drive to Agdz, a peaceful town at the entrance of the Draa Valley. Dinner and overnight in a traditional kasbah or riad surrounded by palm groves.

Day 2: Agdz – Draa Valley – Zagora – Tamegroute – M’hamid (First Night in the Desert)

After breakfast, you travel deeper into the lush Draa Valley, known for its millions of palm trees and ancient caravan route connecting Morocco to Timbuktu. The journey continues to Zagora, a historical oasis town, then to Tamegroute, a village famous for its green pottery, Quranic library, and underground kasbah.

In the afternoon, arrive in M’hamid, the last village before the Sahara begins. Enjoy a sunset camel ride and settle into your desert camp. After dinner, enjoy music under the stars and spend your first magical night in the Sahara.

Day 3: M’hamid – Off-Road Adventure to Chegaga Dunes

After breakfast in the desert, begin a full off-road adventure deep into the Sahara. You will cross wild tracks between tamarisk trees, dry rivers, small dunes, and nomadic grazing lands. Around midday, arrive at the breathtaking Erg Chegaga, a vast dune area with peaks up to 300 meters.

Enjoy mint tea, relax in the camp, and in the afternoon join a camel trek to admire the sunset over the dunes. Dinner is served around the campfire, followed by traditional Berber music. Overnight in a standard or luxury Sahara camp in Chegaga.

Day 4: Chegaga – Nomadic Experience – Iriqui Lake – Foum Zguid

Wake up early to witness a breathtaking sunrise illuminating the dunes of Chegaga with soft golden tones—a moment of pure tranquility that captures the magic of the Sahara. After enjoying breakfast in the peaceful desert camp, your adventure continues with an exhilarating off-road journey across the untouched landscapes of Lake Iriqui and the vast Iriqui National Park. This region, once a large seasonal lake, is now a dry, shimmering salt flat stretching endlessly toward the horizon. The landscape is dotted with ancient fossils, mirages, acacia trees, and nomadic traces, offering a unique opportunity to experience the raw beauty of Morocco’s most remote desert areas. As you drive across rocky plateaus and open plains, you’ll feel the true spirit of exploration that defines this part of the Sahara.

Eventually, the dunes give way to the rocky desert as you approach Foum Zguid, the first village after the long off-road passage. Here, the scenery shifts once again to a peaceful oasis town surrounded by palm groves and mountains. In the afternoon, you can unwind in a comfortable hotel or guesthouse, enjoy a refreshing shower, and relax by the pool or patio after your desert experience. The quiet atmosphere of Foum Zguid makes it the perfect place to rest before returning to Marrakech. In the evening, savor a delicious Moroccan dinner and spend a peaceful night, reflecting on the beauty and adventure of your Sahara journey.

Day 5: Foum Zguid – Taznakht – Atlas Mountains – Marrakech

After breakfast, the journey continues toward the vibrant town of Taznakht, a place renowned throughout Morocco for its exceptional Berber carpet cooperatives. Here, you will have the opportunity to step inside traditional weaving workshops where local women create intricate carpets using techniques passed down through generations. The vivid colors, natural dyes, and geometric patterns each tell a story about Berber culture, making this visit a fascinating window into Morocco’s artistic heritage. You can observe the delicate work of knotting, spinning wool, and weaving—an authentic experience that enriches your understanding of local craftsmanship.

After exploring Taznakht, the road begins to climb gently into the Atlas Mountains, offering breathtaking scenery of valleys, rocky cliffs, and small villages perched on the hillsides. Several scenic stops allow you to capture the beauty of the landscape and enjoy the fresh mountain air before descending toward the plains leading back to Marrakech. As you approach the Red City, the surroundings become livelier, with olive groves, bustling markets, and typical Moroccan architecture reappearing on the horizon. Arrival in Marrakech is scheduled for the late afternoon, marking the end of your unforgettable 5 Days Chegaga Desert Tour, filled with adventure, culture, and the unforgettable serenity of the Sahara.
