Itinerary: 5 Days from Agadir to Merzouga Desert

Day 1: Agadir – Taroudant – Taliouine – Ouarzazate

Your 5-day Agadir to Merzouga tour begins with a private pickup from your hotel or accommodation in Agadir.

Leaving the Atlantic coast, we travel inland toward the Anti-Atlas Mountains, where the landscape changes from coastal plains to rugged mountains, valleys and traditional southern Moroccan villages.

Our first stop is Taroudant, a historic walled town often known as “Little Marrakech.” Its ochre ramparts, traditional souks and relaxed atmosphere offer an authentic introduction to southern Morocco.

Continue toward Taliouine, a region particularly famous for saffron cultivation. Depending on the season and local availability, you may have the opportunity to learn more about this important local product.

The road then climbs through mountain landscapes before descending toward Ouarzazate.

Depending on your arrival time, visit Taourirt Kasbah or enjoy some free time in the city.

Overnight in Ouarzazate.

Day 2: Ouarzazate – Aït Ben Haddou – Dades Valley

After breakfast, continue toward Aït Ben Haddou, one of the most famous historic ksars in Morocco.

Walk through its narrow lanes and explore the traditional earthen architecture that has made the site one of southern Morocco’s best-known cultural landmarks.

After the visit, continue east through the spectacular landscapes of southern Morocco.

The route takes you toward the Valley of the Roses and the Dades Valley, where fertile gardens, palm trees, traditional villages and kasbahs contrast dramatically with the surrounding mountains.

As we reach the Dades Valley, you will have time to enjoy the scenery and, depending on your interests, take a short walk or stop at some of the valley viewpoints.

Overnight in the Dades Valley.

Day 3: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Rissani – Merzouga

Today, the landscape gradually changes as we head deeper toward the Sahara.

After breakfast, drive toward Tinghir and the spectacular Todra Gorge, where enormous limestone cliffs rise on both sides of the narrow valley.

Continue east toward Erfoud, a region known for fossils and its connection to the desert.

The road then takes you toward Rissani, an historic oasis town and former centre of the trans-Saharan caravan trade.

By afternoon, arrive in Merzouga, the gateway to the famous Erg Chebbi dunes.

Leave the vehicle and begin your camel trek across the Sahara.

As the sun begins to set, the dunes turn golden, creating one of the most memorable moments of the journey.

Arrive at your desert camp and enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner, local music and an evening beneath the stars.

Overnight in a Sahara desert camp in Erg Chebbi.

Day 4: Merzouga Desert – Sahara Experience

Wake early for one of the highlights of your Merzouga desert tour: sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes.

As the first light reaches the sand, the dunes change colour from deep shadow to warm gold and orange.

After breakfast, spend the day exploring the Merzouga region at a relaxed pace.

Depending on your interests, you can visit nearby villages, discover local traditions and learn more about life around the Sahara.

You can also enjoy optional activities such as:

4×4 Desert Excursion
Explore the dunes and surrounding desert landscapes by private 4×4.

Sandboarding
Try sliding down the golden dunes for a fun desert adventure.

The afternoon is intentionally flexible. Relax, photograph the dunes or simply enjoy the silence of the Sahara.

Later, return to your accommodation and enjoy another beautiful desert sunset.

Overnight in Merzouga.

Day 5: Merzouga – Draa Valley – Taliouine – Taroudant – Agadir

After breakfast, begin your journey back toward Agadir.

Leaving Merzouga, travel through the desert landscapes toward the Draa Valley, famous for its extensive palm groves, kasbahs and traditional villages.

Continue through the southern Moroccan landscape toward Taliouine, before reaching Taroudant.

Depending on your departure time and interests, there may be time for a final walk through Taroudant’s souks or a relaxed lunch.

From Taroudant, continue west across the Souss Valley until you reach Agadir.

Your private 5-day Agadir to Merzouga Desert tour ends with drop-off at your accommodation in Agadir.
