4 Days Tour from Agadir to Merzouga Desert: Itinerary
Day 1: Agadir – Taroudant – Taliouine – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley
Your private Agadir to Merzouga desert tour begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel or accommodation in Agadir.
Leave the Atlantic coast behind and travel inland through the landscapes of the Anti-Atlas Mountains. The scenery gradually changes from coastal plains to rugged mountains, valleys and traditional villages.
Our first stop is Taroudant, a historic walled town known for its ochre ramparts, traditional souks and authentic southern Moroccan atmosphere.
Continue toward Taliouine, a region strongly associated with saffron cultivation. Depending on the season and local availability, you may have the opportunity to learn more about this traditional agricultural product.
The route then continues toward Taznakht and Ouarzazate, with increasingly arid landscapes along the way.
After Ouarzazate, continue east toward the Dades Valley, part of the famous landscape often associated with Morocco’s Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs.
Enjoy the changing scenery as palm groves, agricultural terraces, villages and kasbahs appear between the mountains.
Overnight in the Dades Valley.
Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Rissani – Merzouga
After breakfast, continue your journey toward the Sahara.
Travel through the Dades region toward Tinghir, where the impressive Todra Gorge awaits. The narrow canyon, surrounded by towering limestone cliffs, is one of the most spectacular natural landscapes of southern Morocco.
Take a walk through part of the gorge and enjoy the dramatic scenery before continuing east.
The landscape becomes increasingly dry as you travel toward Erfoud, a desert town known for fossils and its location on the edge of the Sahara.
Continue to Rissani, an important historic oasis town with strong links to the former trans-Saharan caravan trade.
From Rissani, the road continues toward Merzouga.
In the afternoon, arrive at the edge of Erg Chebbi, the vast dune region surrounding Merzouga.
Leave your vehicle and begin your camel trek across the dunes. As the sun begins to set, the sand changes colour and the surrounding landscape becomes beautifully quiet.
Arrive at your desert camp and enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner, Amazigh music and an evening beneath the stars.
Overnight in a desert camp in Erg Chebbi.
Day 3: Merzouga – Erg Chebbi Desert Experience
Wake early to experience one of the highlights of the journey: sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes.
As the first light reaches the Sahara, the dunes gradually change from deep shadows to golden and orange tones.
After breakfast, spend the day discovering the Merzouga desert and surrounding area at a relaxed pace.
You can explore the dunes by 4×4, walk through the sand, enjoy another camel ride or simply take time to appreciate the extraordinary silence of the Sahara.
For travellers looking for adventure, optional activities such as sandboarding and quad biking can be arranged. The Moroccan National Tourism Office specifically highlights camel riding and sandboarding among the activities available around Merzouga.
You can also discover nearby communities and learn about local desert traditions, crafts and everyday life.
In the afternoon, return toward the dunes and enjoy another spectacular Sahara sunset.
Spend the evening relaxing at your camp with dinner and traditional music around the fire.
Overnight in the Merzouga area.
Day 4: Merzouga – Draa Valley – Agdz – Taliouine – Taroudant – Agadir
After breakfast, begin the long return journey toward Agadir.
Leave Merzouga behind and travel west through the changing landscapes of southeastern Morocco.
Depending on the route and road conditions, the journey can pass through the Draa Valley and Agdz, where extensive palm groves, oasis landscapes, traditional villages and earthen kasbahs create a striking contrast with the Sahara.
Continue through the Anti-Atlas toward Taliouine and then Taroudant.
If time allows, make a final stop in Taroudant for a walk through the souks or a relaxed meal before continuing toward Agadir.
Arrive in Agadir in the evening, completing your private 4-day journey from the Atlantic coast to the Sahara.
